Home – National Science Week

National Science Week is Australia’s annual celebration of science and technology. Running each year in August, it features more than 2,500 events around Australia. From hands-on explorations of the science behind beach safety for families, to the mathematics of quilting, to adults-only talks about animal reproduction, there’s an event to suit just about everyone! Over three million people participate in science events across the nation.

The purposes of National Science Week are to:

  • draw the nation’s attention towards the sciences
  • spark broad interest and engagement in the sciences
  • provide an opportunity for all Australians, including those historically underrepresented in the sciences, to participate in science events and activities
  • foster partnerships between the community, research organisations and industry
  • trial new and innovative science communication activities.
